Size Matters

When you’re planning a DIY move, it’s important to determine what size truck is best suited to your stuff. It’s always better to overestimate the volume of furniture and boxes you may have, but overkill can break your budget.

The smallest commonly available truck length is 10ft, which can usually already fit more than most people think. A 10ft box is capable of transporting at least one large bedroom plus potentially an extra couch or sofa. This is ideal if you are only transporting furniture from 1 or 2 bedrooms OR a 2-3 bedroom house full of boxes (clothes, decor, dishes).

A 15ft truck can handle the amount of furniture found in most 3 bedroom houses including mattresses and dressers., but if you have the rest of the boxes to worry about and can’t use your personal vehicle, a bigger truck might be needed.

A 20ft truck should be able to carry all bedroom and living furniture from a 3-4+ bedroom house and most boxes packed with items. Especially used in combination with a personal vehicle, a 20-26ft truck is probably the biggest you would need until you have a 5+ bedroom house worth of furniture and boxes. Most moving companies in College Station have only to worry about 1-2 bedroom moves and minimal boxes.
