So you found some cheap movers online and decide to put them up to the challenge that is moving your home. Do they really need licenses and insurance to pick up your dresser and carry it a few feet to the truck?

The short answer is: it depends on who is doing the driving.

Hiring some college kids to load up your own rental truck so that you can drive it to your destination will 99 times out of 100 be a pretty safe choice. You probably won’t need to ask about their TxDMV Number or how much liability insurance they carry.

Now if you hire a full service moving company who will provide their own truck and driver, the state government says they need to have an active TxDMV license and at least $300,000 in liability insurance and at least $5,000 in cargo insurance at minimum. This is to protect you the consumer, but also other cars on the road that could potentially be involved in a crash.

Household Goods Moving is a regulated industry and for a good reason: each moving job can be transporting thousands of dollars of valuables and without insurance or a license, consumers could be left stranded with no hope of compensation from unprofessional moving businesses.

Aggie Packers is one of many licensed and insured moving companies in College Station, so contact us for your next move!
